Eight categories, 56 articles

A category is a promise about what a reader will find, not a folder to put things in. Each one states what belongs in it, what does not, and who edits it. If a subject does not sit cleanly inside exactly one of these, we usually do not write it.

Closed set. Adding a ninth is an architecture decision, not an editorial one.

Why categories do not each get a colour

Eight colours would destroy the signal system. Only three categories carry a semantic tint, and only because the tint is doing real work: red marks Safety so a reader can spot it while scanning, teal marks the pages that carry citations and grades, and ochre marks status information that changes and is dated. The other five are distinguished typographically.
